9 months down, 12 more to go.
Peak:
Can you believe we have been living and working in Korea for 9 months! Wow. In the last 9 months life has flown by. Work is good, Joe and I are enjoying the time we have with each other, and we really love the new friendships we have made. The last 9 months have been a peak!
Pit:
Oh my gosh, we have 12 more months! Ahhh, sometimes we miss the silly little things. I miss our big couch. My washer and dryer! Quick trips to Fred Myer where you can grab everything you need in under 30 minutes. Then the big things, 1st birthdays and helping Mike and Debbie with the remodel they are doing on their house. It's hard to think that we have 12 more months away.
June 2013 is the end of our contract. We have not set an exact date. But we agreed with our boss, Karen, that we will leave as some point in June. When things get closer and she finds replacements for us we will have a better idea. I think knowing that this month, maybe even this week, is our 12 more month mark was hard on Joe and I. We had a long week. Not just that I think that our inner teacher calendar thinks we should be starting summer vacation this week too. Every single teacher friend I have on Facebook has made a comment about summer vacation or the last day of this school year. I. Am. Dieing!
But we have SO much to look forward to in the next 12 months....
At the end of this month Joe and I are in a little musical (again) with some of our students. We have rehearsal the next two weekends. That will keep us a little busy.
My friends, Jenelle and Myriam and I are throwing Leah and baby boy Brown a baby shower! Leah's mom is going to be in Korea visiting for 3 weeks so we planned the shower so that her mom can be a part of it. We have a million ideas and things are really coming together.
Joe's dirty 30th birthday is July 25!~ Can you believe my husband is SO old :) We have some fun weekend plans with all of our friends. I am looking forward to spoiling him.
Mike and Debbie get here in 5 weeks! They arrive July 27! yay!
We are all going to China together! They are fun to travel with. We have been on a dozen or so trips together and each trip we have made some great memories.
I also get to see the Great Wall. I am SO excited.
Debbie is going to stay with us for an extra week and a half. I am really looking forward to having some mom time. I really miss having her around.
Joe and I get an extra vacation in October. We are thinking about taking a trip to Thailand. No plans made yet but we will be taking advantage of our time off.
Then in December we are going to Hawaii!!!! We love Hawaii. Joe and I have been twice, but this time Mike and Debbie are going to meet us there for Christmas. Because Christmas is on a Tuesday and so is New Years, we get a few extra days off this year! yay. We will get to stay in Hawaii for 10 days. Tickets bought, condo reserved!
After our Christmas vacation in Hawaii we will only have 6 more months left in Korea. I am sure that time will fly by! We will have kinder graduation to prepare for and a new set of kids to whip into shape. And we will be applying to jobs back home trying to figure out what our chapter after Korea brings us.
9 months down, 12 more to go.

B and B
Beer and Baking
BIS has been stressful for the last few weeks! More last minute changes to our work load, meetings and new students. (my low level first grade English class went from 4 boys to 7 boys almost overnight!) The last thing any of us teachers want is to be feeling overwhelmed by work this close to Christmas and our winter vacation.
Leah had this great idea to get together at her place to have a little fun. The ladies were going to bake cookies while the guys got to do guy stuff. Basically the plan was for the guys to play video games and drink beer while the ladies sipped on wine and decorated sugar cookies.
Well Sunday was the day. Joe and I met Krystal and her boyfriend Chris and hopped on the bus headed to Leah's place. Leah and her husband Josh were great hosts. They had snacks ready and beer cold.
The guys did there thing while the ladies got right down to business. It was fun to hangout outside of school, chat and get to know the other teachers on a more personal level.
And... I LOVE SUGAR COOKIES! Nothing says Christmas like sugar cookies, dripping with frosting and sprinkles!
We have this really mean door man, well let me clarify. The door man is always nice to me, but he is ALWAYS mean to Joe. He is this middle aged man that only speaks a few words of English. Well I have taken it upon myself to be out of my way nice to him. When we got back from Leah's with the box of cookies I gave him one. (that's why a cookie is missing in the picture above) He was very thankful and gave me a little bow, then glared at Joe.
It was a great night, with great company. Joe and I are really thankful to have such great co-workers/friends!
Not to mention my "peak" today was this......
That's right I had coffee and sugar cookies twice today. Once for breakfast and again for my afternoon snack! PERFECTION!

Peak and Pit
Joe and I each take turns at the end of the day to talk about our "Peak" and our "Pit".
Our "Peak" being the best part of our day. The "Pit" being our least favorite part of our day.
So here is my Peak and Pit for the day....
Lets begin with the Pit...
We are sick.....
Joe is taking it WAY better than I am. I am grumpy, irritated and in a terrible mood.
I was in a bad mood as soon as I stepped off of the elevator today at school. Things are changing. Our schedules are changing. We are getting new students.
I brought hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes to school. No one was allowed into my classroom without washing their hands.... twice. I am on a mission to sanitize and kill any and all germs that might end up in my path.
We had a staff meeting yesterday. All of the teachers we asked their opinion about students and levels...blah blah blah....
As a group we thought we made a decision about some students. Well those decisions were thrown out the window. A few students are in classes that are too difficult. I am not feeling like my opinion was valued or like I have been shown respect. I got very frustrated!
I truly love my job, I love being a teacher, I love spending time with my students, but today I wish I could have just stayed in bed!
( I kinda cheated.... I kinda had 2 "pits" but I think that they are very much related. If I wasn't sick I wouldn't be in such a terrible mood and I wouldn't care as much about all of the crappy changes.)
And my Peak....
One of my (favorite) first graders, Greg, made me laugh today. Our English class starts at 2:30. Well the bell rang for class to begin and Greg's backpack was at my classroom door but Greg was no where to be found. He is often late so I assumed he was talking to the Korean staff or checking out a book from the library.
Well twenty minutes later I went looking for him. I was walking down the hall past the bathrooms yelling his name. To my surprise I heard Greg yell back!
Me- "Greg, where are you?"
Greg- (*from inside the bathroom) "I'm doing the poop Ms. Stephanie"
Me- "OH!........Well wash your hands when your done."
Greg-"ok, 5 minutes more"
Me- ".....take your time"
About 10 minutes later he arrives at my door.
Me- "Did you wash your hands?'
Greg- "OH!?! No."
Me- "GO WASH YOUR HANDS!!!! DON"T TOUCH ANYTHING!"
It's gross. But he is funny and I can't help but laugh.
(you know I had a bad day when poop was part of my "peak")
I just popped a handful of over the counter cold/flu meds. Let's hope this sickness runs its course sooner than later.
*someday I will have to post a picture of our bathrooms......We have a boys bathroom and a girls bathroom. Each of the toilets have stalls with doors, but the bathroom itself does not have a door. They have these pathetic half curtains strung from the top of the doorway. There is ZERO privacy for the boys using the urinal, just ask Mr. Joe.
